::Ooyama::
Type: Canon
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Straight
Crushes: None
Face Claim: Ooyama
Description:
Ooyama gives off one and only one vibe; average. Currently he is about 5ft. 7in. tall, the average height of a male from Japan, weighing in at about 150 lbs., within the range of the average weight for a male. He is neither fat, muscled, frail, nor thin; he just has an average body build that makes him seem unassuming and easily ignored by those around him. His face is also rather unassuming, having a rather simple brown-hair that isn’t styled in any particular fashion; it’s just there being a little messy at times. Admittedly his green eyes are a little odd, but not too much and aren’t really noticeable unless he is in the middle of some kind of emotional moment. Overall, Ooyama is perfectly and unnoticeably normal looking.
In terms of clothing, Ooyama simply wears the standard uniform of the Afterlife War Front at just about all times. It consists of a khaki jacket with the faction’s symbol patched onto one of the arms. Underneath he wears a white dress shirt with a blue tie, making him a little more formal than many of the other members. Next he wears a pair of black dress pants, shoes, and belts to finish off the uniform. He secretly carries his pistol with him as well, attached to the belt when needed. His sniper rifle, however, is kept in his dorm room unless needed for a mission. When he is able to be more casual he simply takes off the jacket and the tie; his school uniform is about the only clothes he owns.
Personality:
Unlike many of the other members of the Afterlife War Front, Ooyama isn’t really unusual in terms of his personality. In fact, for the longest time, Hinata and Yuri thought he was an NPC, not an actual human. He is a generally pleasant person, willing to listen and behave kindly towards those around him. However, he lacks any really exciting hobbies or interests; he likes reading, RPGs (he likes to compare the world around him to an RPG), and music but overall not much else in terms of interests. Ooyama just tends to follow the flow around him, being brought into situations he really doesn’t understand against his will, usually by Hinata or Yuri.
As much as he is in terms of averageness and overall boringness, however, Ooyama really isn’t that bad of a guy. He is very pleasant and optimistic, always having a soft smile on his face as a general emotional state. However, he is capable of showing emotion, most of the time shock, surprise, and/or fear (sometimes all three), especially when he first met Yuri and Hinata. There he was generally aghast at the violence of Yuri, but by now he’s gotten used to it so he only reacts with a mild surprise (though still finds the relationship….weird). He also shows genuine concern, affection, and gratitude towards those he has befriended, more than the NPCs would show as programmed. The two closest people for him are Yuri and Hinata, and alongside them one of the original members of the Afterlife War Front.
In terms of courage, Ooyama….isn’t that much. He is a very timid person; he was scared to death of Yuri when he first heard of how violent she was. His time with the Afterlife War Front has made him more courageous, but he still prefers to snipe from a distance than get in the dirty mess of up-close combat.
In terms of his relationship with God and the afterlife, Ooyama settled into the role of the world so well he might as well have been an NPC. He was quick to accept the fact that this seemed to be the afterlife, and became a part of the daily schedule of class and school life. To a degree he felt it all to be like a game of sorts, though till the arrival of Hinata he didn’t really work to “play it” and escape. Instead, he just accepted his position and enjoyed his life as best as he could. The arrival of Hinata and Yuri, however, stirred something in him...
Now as a member of the front, Ooyama has found himself wanting more than just a plain, average existence. While he is still a bit cowardly and pleasant, he does truly enjoy the exciting stupidity and chaos around him. Admittedly he doesn’t care too much about whether or not God exists or the unfairness of life or the various other reasons the others fight; he just wants to stay with his friends and have exciting adventures. He fights for them, not for himself, even if to a degree he finds Yuri to be an overly violent psycho sometimes. No matter what though, he won’t leave his friends if they have a problem. In terms of an RPG game, he is the monk; there to help and heal his comrades.
History:
Starting from birth, Ooyama was an average child. The only child of his parents (in a time when the average child per woman in Japan was 1.3), he fit neatly within the statistical bounds of life. His family was middle class as well, living in a small apartment building inside a medium sized city. As an only child he was given all the attention of course, but in the busy life of Japan he wasn’t really spoiled. Furthermore, with his grandparents being there to take care of him, he was taught to be kind and polite towards others. This kept up with his life, going to kindergarten as well, and basically set the course of his life; averageness.
Upon entering elementary school, it was found that Ooyama specialized in absolutely nothing. However, he was generally good at everything; not the best, but passable skill level in things. He usually made high B’s or low A’s in grades; good but not the best. In gym he would get third place in athletic events; good but there was better. Member of a club but never an officer His teachers found him a pleasant, helpful person, but he was never a teacher’s pet; there was always some super-student who was. Overall though, he was perfectly fine with that; it was nice not being the center of attention, and life was enjoyable. For the most part life was the same way in middle school as well, though with the addition of dating there was another element; good at being friends with girls but not enough to get a date.
Around this time Ooyama began to take an interest in video games, mostly RPGs. There he could get away from the averageness of his life, becoming a person in a fantasy land with knights and dragons and villains to defeat. It was his favorite genre, and at times he would make comparisons between himself and his games. In these times he was “Random Villager A”, never the protagonist. He didn’t feel like he could be the protagonist of a game; he was too afraid to do so. Nope, his life as it was now was perfectly fine for him, even if it was safe and average. Life kept up like this for a few more years, even in his time as a high school student.
Then he died. Playing outside one day in the school yard, Ooyama was being dared into climbing a tree by some of the guys around school. He took the dare, but as he climbed the tree he found himself slipping and falling. There was a smash, and then everything was black; he awoke to found himself wearing an all-black school uniform. Confused as to what was going on, he was greeted calmly by a silver haired girl, introducing herself as the Student Council President, who pushed him to begin attending class. In the rush of the day, Ooyama eventually figured that he was in the afterlife of sort; after all, falling out of a tree wouldn’t cause all this to happen unless he died or something, right? With his normal, average personality, it didn’t take long for him to slip into the routine of life, though there was this nagging feeling something was missing.
That something eventually appeared in the form of two crazy people; Hinata and Yuri. Hinata became his roommate a long time after he arrived in the afterlife, and as Ooyama found out later Hinata thought him an NPC due to his averageness. Once the truth was known, however, Hinata dragged Ooyama to meet Yuri, with Ooyama scared to death due to stories Hinata told him of her violence. During this first meeting it was confirmed by Yuri’s treatment of Hinata, but afterwards Ooyama was able to help Hinata and Yuri make up after a fight of sorts. Joining their crew in Yuri’s battle against God, Ooyama soon found himself over his head. Between crazed gunmen, adventures in the mountains that would become Guild, and so much more, Ooyama found himself only able to get through it all by his friendship with Yuri and Hinata. As the Afterlife War Front grew, Ooyama stood by their side. Whether or not God was real, and whatever the truth about their enemy “Tenshi” (the Student Council President that Ooyama had met on arrival, and which he feels isn’t so bad), he will stick by his friends and do his best. It just took some time to learn how to use that sniper rifle of his that he got….involved many unfortunate casualties to do so (mostly his).
Combat Style:
Being all around average, Ooyama doesn't truly excel at one particular combat style. Normally he is given the position of sniper, taking advantage of his particular sniper rifle (an M24 Sniper Weapon System). For close range combat he uses a pistol (a SIG Sauer P226).

After another encounter with the enemy Tenshi, Ooyama was busy dealing with the stains of battle. While he didn’t have to deal with all the blood that the others had, being a sniper and all, he still had grass stains and rocks and all other such things dirtying up his clothes. Geeh, grass stains were always such a pain to remove; now he knew why his mother hated it so much. Of course, she really didn’t have to deal with it now. Nope, his mother just had that one, bloodstained uniform to clean probably, after that tree….well there was no point getting upset over that. He had already accepted the fact that he was dead a long time ago. Sure he missed his family, but there was nothing he could do. Even if he left this place, there was no guarantee he could remember them or even see them again. He was dead, and he was fine with that. Being dead had been probably the best thing for him, which sounded morbid but was true. After all, he had met some cool new friends….[/blockquote]
Bzzzzzzz.
”Oh, the washer’s done….” Ooyama said, excited to see that his clothing was getting ready. Walking over to the top-loader washer, he opened it up and began to move his dirtied up battle clothes and bring it over to the dryer. Some NPCs were in there, but they had gotten used to the stains on his clothes. They just figured he was really athletic and played a lot of sports in the meantime or something. Worked for him; after all, they would just laugh off his claims of being an ace sniper and say he was being a kidder or something.
Throwing in a dryer sheet, he set the machine up and let it go. Since it would be an hour or so till it was all done, he really had nothing else to do. He had been ordered to not do the homework or anything like that anymore in fears of living life as an NPC would make him disappear. However, he had been living that life long before Yuri or Hinata showed up in his life, so he sort of did it anyway. To stay within Yuri’s rules, however, he made sure to only make high C’s and low B’s instead of the A’s and B’s he made in his past life. He just couldn’t give up the routineness of the NPC life, though he did really enjoy the life he had as a member of the Afterlife War Front.
Speaking of that, he wondered if any of the others were around here? Since he had time to kill, maybe he would stop by the Nurse’s lounge and see if anybody that had been injured woke up yet? They had taken some heavy casualties, as usual. It was a good thing you couldn’t die in this world; otherwise the group would have been long gone since the start. Heck, he had died a few times himself; it wasn’t a pleasant experience. Whatever the case, someone had to be walking around, so he set himself out on a quest to find anyone to hang out with!
